Founder’s Story

Hello, I’m Tony — husband, father, son, and proud founder of Cyclotron Pickleball.

My life bridges two worlds: the vibrant San Francisco Bay Area and the dynamic city of Beijing. I divide my time between these two homes, shaped by different cultures but united by the same passion for sport and personal growth.

Growing up, sports were a defining part of my life. From table tennis and badminton to basketball, volleyball, soccer, and rowing, competition taught me discipline, resilience, and perseverance. These experiences built not only my physical strength, but also a mindset that embraces challenge. The memories—both victories and setbacks—remain among my most valuable treasures.

Discovering Pickleball

Pickleball entered my life unexpectedly.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I noticed my local park filled with players—many around my parents’ age. At first, I didn’t pay much attention. The smaller court and unfamiliar dinks felt foreign to me.

Everything changed in early 2024.

My wife, who had recently discovered pickleball, invited me to play. With her encouragement and guidance from professional coaches, I stepped onto the court. To my surprise, I struggled. My shots missed wide or fell short into the net. But that moment awakened something in me—my competitive spirit.

I bought a $30 fiberglass Gen 1 paddle and began playing almost every morning.

Very quickly, I realized something powerful: pickleball wasn’t just a sport—it was addictive, social, and deeply human. It brought people together in ways I had never experienced before.

An Engineer’s Curiosity

As an engineer with a PhD in Civil Engineering, I became fascinated by the paddle itself.

How could such a simple piece of equipment have such a profound impact on performance?

Driven by curiosity, I tested more than 150 paddles and spent days inside a paddle manufacturing facility in China. I studied the materials, construction, design philosophy, and supply chain. This hands-on experience gave me deep insight into the science and engineering behind paddle performance.

I began to see clearly: paddle design was not just manufacturing—it was innovation.

A Mission to Build the Right Paddle

I founded Cyclotron Pickleball with a clear mission:

To create paddles that truly serve players—not just professionals, but the majority of the pickleball community.

Some may say creating the “perfect paddle” is impossible. But during my time at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, I learned a lasting truth:
real value is created through effort, difficulty, and persistence.

Our name, Cyclotron, is inspired by the particle accelerator invented by Ernest Lawrence at Berkeley. Just as the cyclotron accelerates and controls particles with precision, our goal is to help players elevate their performance with confidence, control, and consistency.

Cyclotron is not just a brand. It is a belief in continuous acceleration—of performance, innovation, and passion.

More Than a Sport

Life is fleeting, but within it are moments of pure joy.

For me, pickleball represents that joy. It brings people together, challenges us, and reminds us to stay present.

Cyclotron Pickleball was created to be part of that journey.

Welcome to Cyclotron Pickleball. Let’s accelerate the game—together.
